Photo Gallery?

Post by BruceS »

I'm after opinions on an idea I have.
With very little effort I can install some software that is a photo gallery.
It can be on the same site and will be linked into our forum.
If you are a registered member on the forum you will have access to the 'inner' workings of the gallery.
You can (if you wish) set up your own gallery with as many albums as you wish. eg, Whitfield, Rally1, Uluru, Kimberley etc etc.
You can set each individual album as 'public' or 'private' as you wish.
I have done a weeny bit of testing at present but have not tied it to the forum as yet.
Sample here.

This test album now removed. Thankyou for your input.

I've created a few albums but at present only one has a photo in it.
If I go ahead that one will be removed before reinstalling properly.
Opinions please?

Hi Rob.
Yes the sizes of the 3 pictures can be set by admin at whatever we decide is good.
If you look at the example you can see there is the small thumbnail, the 'reasonable' size & then the original size.
My personal opinion is that it's no real advantage having a photo that is much bigger than the persons screen resolution or else there has to be scrolling up & down to see it properly.
I like to keep my original photos in unalterated size. eg 4000pix by 2800pix.
For website or album it's better to resize to 900 X ? or a bit less & convert to jpg if the original is Tiff etc.
The size in kb's can also be set by admin.
Did you have a size in mind?

No, not really, I would prefer that uploaded photos were automatically re-sized by the program rather than to have to manually resize them, is that possible?

I'll look into it but when I was setting up the forum the ones I found actually resized the picture when it was being displayed on the viewers computer.
In other words it still required uploading a HUGE file & took up a lot of space on the server & if you wished to view it, it actually downloaded the HUGE file to your computer but only displyed it in the reduced size on your screen. (pretty useless)
If the photo has to be uploaded BEFORE it auto get's resized it's not much advantage really.
I'll see what mods are available.

Yes Rob.... it does resize the pictures on upload.
Let me know if you'd like to test it out?

Email sent Rob.
It appears to resize in pixels but if it's too big in KB's it refuses to behave.

Probably a silly question but why can't you use POSTIMAGE as other forums use. it is so easy for we folk not really into all these different size descriptions
