Our Journey of a different type for 2015

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Hi everyone thought it was about time ( and a gentle nudge form Dot lol  ) That I Drop in and get you all up to date on our journey. Since arriving back home in mid May our life has been very hectic to say the least. As you know Kiara's cancer has returned and now is classed as stage 4 so she now has what is called Metastatic triple negative breast cancer, which has lodged in her liver, this cancer has very limited options for treatment, no going back from that which has been very hard for us all to accept, but accept you do. We have a wonderful team working with us and Kiara was accepted for a clinical trial at Peter Mac trailing a combination of new drugs. Treatment started in June and it means we have to go to Melbourne every week sometimes twice a week, so it's been a little full on. The first couple of treatments Kiara did not handle reallly well and was admitted to hospital for a few days and in the middle of this she had a nasty fall and wreaked her foot, still healing. So that meant we moved in to live with her full time, and I have become her full time carer. Now fast forward a couple of months and once again our beautiful daughter is defying the odds and is back at work doing well,be it with some side effects and we are pleased to say the treatment is working so far with the tumour starting the reduce in size and no new ones. So we now only stay with her a few nights a week and we have moved back home to give ourselves a little bit of normality. In September one of the drugs was withdrawn due
to side effects so our trips to Melbourne are now fortnightly so much easier all round. Kiara continues to work and and enjoy life as much as she can. Ivan and I this week managed to get away in the van for a few days to recharge our batteries , didn't go far just found a river to camp on and do nothing. We continue on the trial as its has no end date and live in hope that new drugs can give kiara many more years. In the middle of all this our darling little 6 year old granddaughter has been diagnosised with type 1 diabetics this has put a lot more pressure on our family but we have all been stronge and little Holly has been wonderful in handling her new normal. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and best wishes. Cheers Ros

It is so good to read a positive story like Kiara's. Keep on doing whatever is working and remember to take some time for your selves to smell the roses. Thanks for sharing your adventure and let's all hope that it stays so positive. :D :D :D

Great to hear that modern treatments are now getting the upper hand with the big C. All our thoughts are with you and the family and lots of good vibes headed Kiara's way as a bonus. Type 1 diabetes is not the death sentence it once was, we have a good friend now in her 50's she had the first kidney/panaceas transplant after the damage caused by her rebellious teen yrs and then giving birth to twins all finally caught up. The addition bits are still performing well after more than 15yrs and the method of diabetes control are so refined these days that it becomes second nature.
The Peter Mac people are incredible, another good friend did the bike ride each yr to raise funds and his wife Toni is still beating the odds after close on 20 yrs, there is a relapse every so often and the last reoccurrence was in the form of bone cancer but the treatment seems to have kicked that one in the butt as well so state of mind along with modern treatment can beat and win the battle it seems.
