Thought for Today

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

'Mouse' has the plural form 'mice'...
so why doesn't 'house' take the plural form 'hice'?

Likewise, a branch of a tree is a 'bough'...
so why isn't a bovine animal a 'cough'?

... or, when you have sufficient, it's 'enough'...
So the thing at the end of your sleeve should be a 'cough'!

Ain't our English language wonderful?

Sorta like :-
A dog's lead
The weight of lead
He will lead the troops.
Lead in the pencil
Etc Etc
No wonder some say English is hard to understand
.
.
.
.
But the best description I've heard about the "English as she is spoke" came from a Frenchman
He recons the Scots hate the English so much they took it out and laid it along the road
Then as every Scot passed it they chopped it up a little with their swords
When it no longer looked English and was acceptable to the average Scot they put it back in and have used their version ever since then.

True

I have some Scot 2nd Cousins I met once when staying on my Auntie's farm, as a young fella the parents wanted to be rid off and have some peace. ;)

Took me 2 days to work out "du yu no ken " ( Do you not understand )
After that i was OK with what they were saying, although there were a few jokes about ken.

Why doesn't the volume increase when you buy the light version of the original product, they both weigh the same?

Conversely, why does a litre of skim milk weigh the same as a litre of full cream milk? 😁
