Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Hmmm...
No guesses yet?
Those of you who have been reading some of my recent posts from the road might like to have a red hot guess...

(That’s a hint!)

I'll have half a guess. It's at Booligal NSW , but I don't have a pic of the brass plaque that I can read, and as I can't remember I have simply NFI. Does it have something to do with John Oxley the explorer? I think he was the surveyor general of NSW for a while but now there is a bunch of places and roads named after him in Qld.

And the winner is.............
Supersparky!!

Congrats, David!
You are spot on with both parts. :D

The hint was a recent pic of Girt at Booligal... and mention of A. B. Paterson's poem "Hay, Hell and Booligal." :P

Here's the plaque (erected by Hay Historical Society, 8th July 1967):

And for those who don't know the poem:

Hay, Hell, and Booligal
A.B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson

Such a pleasant, quiet place.
You never see a stranger’s face;
They hardly ever care to call.
The drovers mostly pass it by,
They reckon that they’d rather die
Than spend a night in Booligal.

But down in Hay the shearers come
And fill themselves with fighting rum
And chase blue devils up the wall
And fight the snaggers every day
Until there is the deuce to pay —
There’s none of that in Booligal.

“We’d have to stop!” with bated breath
We prayed that both in life and death
Our fate in other lines might fail;
“Oh, send us to our just reward
In Hay or Hell, but gracious Lord,
Deliver us from Booligal!”
