Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Ahh yes, Ken Warby it was - still hold the water speed record IIRC.
Don't remember where DC did it then...

Bruce,
See my previous post for further clarification. :D

... and nobody has picked up on my warning to get the spelling right.
So far, none of the suggested names have been challenging in the spelling department. 8-)

And a mea culpa: the stretch of water where Campbell met his maker (after finding that meeting water at speed is like landing on concrete) was Coniston Water, not Lake or Loch Coniston.

Side note: Totally unrelated to anything but the hardness of water...
I vividly remember Prof Harry Messel on the TV show "Why Is It So?" demonstrating that particular quality by filling a screw-cap bottle right to the brim with water (no air at all inside), then using the glass bottle to drive a nail into a piece of wood! :o
Kiddies, don't try this at home.
Regards & God bless,
Ray

This conversation is all over the place. Just like lunch on Fridays where we tell the same stories over and over - forgetting that we told them before. The only difference from week to week is the enhancements - the older we get the better we were.

I think there are many on here that do know the answer to Ray's Question but don't wish to answer because then they have to come up with a question of their own?
I'm often guilty of that.
Today I have a very busy day but ..........

Was it in WA?
On December 31, 1964 a crowd gathered on the shores of Lake Dumbleyung to watch English speedster Donald Campbell break a world water speed record. Mr Campbell clocked an incredible 444.71kph across the lake in his bright blue hydroplane, the Bluebird.

YES, BRUCE,
You’ve got it!!
Lake Dumbleyung it is!!!!!!
That’s why the hint on spelling: some people insist on putting an ‘o’ in the ‘yung’ part.

I hand you the crown again, Bruce. 😃

Ok her goes. The Endeavour Straight separates Yorke Peninsular from which large island off the Torres Straight Islands?
Plenty of questions as I make sure I save from the weekend papers. I had never heard of the answer to this question .
