Australian Trivia Only

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Not WA or SA.
Time is passing too quickly so live life to the full with your spouse/partner while you still have she/he by your side.

Well,
After nearly two weeks there’s no progress here.

So here’s a question to kick start things again:

The total weight of the ironmongery in the Sydney Harbour Bridge is 52,800 tonnes. Of that, the arch alone weighs 39,000 tonnes.
How much of the weight is carried by each of the four pylons?

I think it is none, they are just cosmetic. Seem to remember that the story of the bridge and it's construction is in one the pylons, sort of like a museum.

Damn!!
I thought the statistics might lead people up the (mathematical) garden path... 😁

David, you are absolutely correct.
Their sole function is to visually balance the bulk of the arch. (And I did unearth that info from a crumbling 1950s booklet I collected when my parents took me to the Pylon Bridge Museum as a young tacker.)

Your turn.

Thanks Ray, I remembered that from our visit there. The stone masonry on those pylons is amazing , no gaps anywhere. And all done by hand from memory.
So, what is the connection between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Story Bridge in Brisbane?

That's it Shirley. A brilliant engineer. The road on both bridges is called the Bradfield Hwy. They are trying to revive an irrigation scheme that he planned for outback QLD at the mo'. But Anna isn't too keen.

For some reason my thumb thought that you needed to know that twice.
