Avian Visitors

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Newly spotted at our birdbath: Rainbow Lorikeets.
We think there's a whole family here, settling into one of our mature Eucalypts. Heard more than two chirping, but only two have been brave enough to venture to the birdbath which is close to the house. They have yet to stay long enough for me to grab the camera.
"Junior" the resident Magpie has had a territorial dispute with one of our resident Kookaburras over the birdbath...
Kooka ignored him and held its ground.
They settled on mutual intolerance...

It seems that Kooka is getting to feel more as if he/she owns our place...

He/she has now taken to gazumping the Magpies for the morning bread we put out on the barrel we refer to as Maggie's Breakfast Bar...
(originally we fed only one female - Maggie - before she mated with Shybird)

When I took this pic this morning six of our seven resident Magpies were sitting on the ground.
:? None were game to challenge Kooka for the bread.

The two maggies in the background look like they're holding a union meeting to decide who draws the short straw... :P

Eastern Rosellas grazing in the back yard.

And I think the Magpies & the Kookaburras have learned to share territory.

Well, the Currawongs have departed, returning to their High Country home for the summer.

They were beginning to be a problem for our Magpie family, trying to usurp the barrel feeding post of a morning.
At least the Magpies now only have to deal with the cheeky Noisy Mynahs... which are smaller than they are, and easier to bluff.

We spotted another non-avian resident taking in the rare sunny day yesterday... he/she lives under our Rosemary hedge. Been living there for some years. :)

Another phone-camera job...
Could someone rotate it 90* R please?
Done Ray & I made it a little less over exposed!!

In the back yard, Kooka was at his usual watching post, the iron wheel, when Junior Magpie swooped, missing him by inches. Kooka promptly flew off, leaving Junior to assume watching the yard for a meal. Junior is becoming quite assertive, even though he's second-generation in the family. He bosses the 3rd gen babies about in Mum Maggie's absence. ;)

We still have our resident black swans in the bay, the number has grown to 8, seem to spend most of their time diving & feeding, they look so good when they decide to take off & fly.
This time of year we have lorikeets visit for several weeks, have 2 loved up birds sit fussing over one another on our front deck for hours. :D

Our resident Kookas had a baby last year.
Today, we had a visit from the whole family.
I think they were inspecting our new 'scrap sculptures'...
Kookas Three.jpeg
Then the baby had to inspect our other garden sculpture...
Kooka on Sculpture.jpeg
I think they approve. :P

At least they make good vantage points for hunting worms...

Cuppa,
That is an absolute RIPPER of a photo!!!
Reckon if there’s any photo competitions in your area you should enter that one in it.
(Cropping to portrait format would improve it a bit.)
