Amazing Discovery!!

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

If you open the case and remove the H/D that's all you'll need to take.

Jaycar have an aux H/D ( I've forgotten how much $$ ) port that will allow you to plug the old H/d to it to either read and transfer the data or have the old H/D as a portable H/D .
If you have programs on the old H/D they will not transfer over and you would have to install them on the new 'pooter .
So by running the old H/D as an aux you can use the programs installed there.

Progress report:
We have replaced the 2009 MacBook Pro with a 2014 MacBook Pro.
That was the model which graduated from a traditional spinning-disc hard drive to a solid-state one. This allowed a slimmer & lighter case.
ALL data was successfully transferred from the deceased MBP to the replacement.
As insurance, we have added a further 128GB solid-state hard drive to the existing 500GB one.
Shortly we will be adding an external (spinning) HD for back-ups.
I had been relying on the Cloud... but the 'Pooter shop explained that anything deleted from our HD will shortly be deleted from the Cloud.
So it's not a permanent back-up!
HD is the only reliable B/U.

and later model fruit machines don't have a USB port, so the option of backing up to a removable hard drive is no longer available unless you buy an additional plug in device. Maybe you can order a model with a USB port now as an optional extra, but you can bet that will disappear in future options as well, will the USB C port eventually disappear as well?
Seems they are headed towards the cloud being the ultimate storage hard drive so no other hard drive is needed. Maybe they haven't ever been outside the city areas where the internet isn't available and therefore neither is the cloud ....... if it isn't on the inbuilt memory then it isn't available .....

T1,
I assume that applies to ALL laptops & tablets...
Not just Apple.
Ditto with Toyota. While our Suzuki was in hospital having the kangaroo bonnet ornament removed, we hired a Corolla. Navigation was NOT satnav. You had to link your smart phone to the car’s sound system and use phone maps.
Fine while you had towers nearby.
A bit of a problem driving in Upper Gulargambone West!
