Re: A Q 4 T1
Thanks Bernie.
Interesting though. While clicking on my original enlarges it to full-screen, clicking on your edited pic does nothing.

I think that is because Bernie saved the smaller sized one rather than clicking on it & then saving the bigger one.

Re: A Q 4 T1
BTW, T1,
The deceased battery had an ever-so-slight bulge in the other side to the one posted.
Hard to tell on the printed side because of the print.
(The new ones are dead-flat on both sides, as is the still-useable original one. Tested them by placing on a known flat surface and trying to rock them. )
Could this indicate a teeny temperature problem?

"tanks" here--- Man, you are good with getting the picture thingo the right way up. I can't even get a picture on the screen and rely on BruceS to do it for me.
Now can you arrange the batteries back in the box now that we have seen them.
I'm now 85 years of age and living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no address, no money, no worries.

Already done, Tanks!
Two new batteries fully charged and boxed, now in camera bag.

Usually one cell overheating, either high or low cell voltage will cause that. The thermal sensor would have stopped the charging before the problem reached a dangerous level where a cell explodes, but the cell would still be damaged.Greynomad wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 12:47 am BTW, T1,

Re: A Q 4 T1
So that would be why that battery showed almost flat 5 minutes after being fully charged & inserted into the camera...
Well, the charger shut down, indicating the battery was full.

Re: A Q 4 T1
Yes, one cell still had a lot more charge than at least 1 other, so it reached an over charged state and got hot before the total voltage of all the cells fully charged was reached. If it had been a deeply discharged cell it would not have run the camera at all. It stopped working in the camera when the cell with the least charge dropped its voltage because it had been drained. If you figure out how the pull that battery apart, charge it till it stops or until you feel a cell get hot, then check the voltage of each cell and you will find the one that needs fully charging to bring the battery back into balance. Once they all reach the same voltage at the end of the charging cycle practically all the capacity will return.

Re: A Q 4 T1
A bit difficult, T1,
That battery went into the bin a week ago...
That's why I purchased two replacements last week... I reckon the original battery might let me down in the near future.
However, I'll keep using it until it does.
(The failed battery was an after-market unit bought at one of those 'batteries for every gadget' places.)

Not sure it's the right method, but I always run the batteries until they either refuse to boot the camera, or take more than a few seconds to record the digital info of the photo. I always have a fully charged battery in the camera bag ready to swap.If it had been a deeply discharged cell it would not have run the camera at all.

PROGRESS REPORT:
Fully charged on Saturday before departure Sunday.
Gave it a decent burial in the bin at The Dish.
Other (original 5+YO Pentax battery) expired yesterday...That's why I purchased two replacements last week... I reckon the original battery might let me down in the near future.
