Breeding season approaches

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Geez, T1,
You have a dangerous house, there!
Maybe you could instal a birdcage around the swallow's nest?
Regards & God bless,

Maybe, but I think the baby birds would starve because the parents wouldn't enter the cage once it was built. We had to put a dust pan broom on top of the back patio light to stop them rebuilding a nest every time we removed it. They mange to get the broom off the light every so often but as long as we get it back up there within a day they don't restart the nest building. The male sits close to the site for a few nights to ensure it is safe before they start nest building, but once started they will rebuild in a day unless something blocks them from getting to the site.

Not breeding but interesting . A cuppla days ago on my morning walk I came across what at first thought may have been a Platypus .
But turned out to be a native water rat , I haven't seen one in years .
I was about to cross a road causeway and there is still a few feet of water there beside the road, hence my initial thoughts of maybe a Platypus .
If we don't get rain soon he/she will have to move to one of the local farmers dam's .
Just thought I would share .

On my trip to Taggerty in 2018 I spent the 1st night at Gunning rest area. In the small reservoir there were 3 water rats which would come up fropm the water to the bank in the hope of getting a little food. I had not seen water rats since I was about 10yo.

Ahh, the joys of having plovers nesting in the yard. We would scores of them nesting around the plant, in years gone by. It was near impossible to walk from one area to another without dive bombed by the parents.

I don’t think so Jim. They never actually make contact as far as I know whereas Magpies will strike. However they certainly are intimidating.

Do you see the spurs on the leading edge of the wings?
