No more Solvol bars

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

No more Solvol bars

Post by Riverlander »

Most people my age had a bar of Solvol on the hand basin in the shed. Unfortunately the makers of Solvol ( WD40 ) said their manufacturer have ceased and they cannot find someone else to do it. Don't know how big of a seller it was but you would think someone would take it up if there was a dollar in it. It was packed by a "sheltered workshop" so there is also jobs and income lost there. My hand basin will look naked without some Solvol sitting on it. The liquid form is still available. You can buy the bars on Ebay for $50 odd dollars a bar :o

Some people are trying to make a killing on ebay with their pricing of whatever stock they still have. I have a couple of bars left, still in the wrapper.
It might last me a few years.

I was actually looking at the local supermarkets for Solvol.
Our Mens Shed has one.
Maybe I’ll have to nick it... :P

Good old sand soap, haven't bought it for years & years, to many other probably better products available today.

I’ve not found anything that as easily cleans greasy hands — as in engine grease, not kitchen grease.
Tried a few newer products, kitchen grease is easy — hand sanitizer. But it’s not much use for grimy engine grease.

Normal kitchen detergent such as Morning Fresh gets all sorts of grease off my hands.

The hand cleaner tech has gone way past the Solvol cleaning power many moons ago. You can get a citrus based hand cleaner with polymer beads in it that works that well it removes ink, Sikaflex, oil based paint as well as any grease combination you can come up with .... even graphite grease that is a challenge for just about any hand cleaner. If you just need to remove a few layers so you can eat morning tea, spray WD40 or any of the similar products on your hands, rub it over and wipe it off with a rag, no need to go through the whole rub a dub scrub, wash and dry routine, not possible if you are miles from the nearest tap ...... industrial fitting jobs and rail equipment maintenance/repair as well as road side vehicle repair never has a tap near by
