VEGAN???

Post by Greynomad »

Now I've seen everything!!
VEGAN Beef (style) Stock...

Now, I ask you:
If you're a vegan, abhorring all animal-sourced products (even leather shoes!), why on earth would you want to use stock that tastes like beef??

I can understand the "vegans" thinking about eating animals but as is everything it is personal issue but to me they don't really know what a real vegan is as shown by your post.. Think the drugs are kicking in :)

The real question is, why are you reading the packet labels these days?

David,
SWMBO spotted in a supermarket while looking for proper stock. It was marked down to half price... I wonder why? ;)

Terry,
T'wasn't me reading the label... t'was SWMBO. She reckoned she couldn't ignore the idiocy of it, and brought it home to show me.

Vik,
I want that T-shirt!! :D

It always makes me laugh when I read things like this, not because of what is being laughed at, but those doing the laughing.

Items like the one described, are used by the trendy fools and those transitioning to a really decent diet and lifestyle and very few ever make the full transition. To my mind, they are not real food, but a load of crap, but for those seeking to improve their health, they are a good form of transition to make them feel like they still fit in with society for awhile. Changing your diet to something decent is a big challenge, social, biological and psychological, yet to meet anyone who has just dropped debilitating food to a real healthy diet.

I've been a supposed vegetarian and then vegan for almost 5 decades, whilst learning to live healthily and economically, tried some of the foods mentioned here and didn't like them at all. Now my diet is what can be classed as balanced nutritionally and healthily, including fresh caught native fish and organically grown poultry. Eat nothing processed, animal products or with preservatives, only drink alcohol once or twice a year at musical festivals we aren't playing at, when catching up with very long time muso friends. The alcohol I do drink, is also organic with no preservatives and for everyones information, you will find most craft tap beers are free of preservatives and mostly organic, plus they taste so much nicer. It is when they bottle it, they normally include preservatives.

At 73, my doctors tells me I'm in wonderful condition, even my damaged lungs function better than most with full lung capacity. My diet and lifestyle, allows me to run daily, walk very long distances, still play music without getting tired, cut all our firewood and do all the things I used to do when young at the same pace. I take no form of medication, never get sick, or have a cold/flu even though we work in places where many times most people are wracked with flu and it's all because of the way we live and eat.

I don't laugh at the 99% of people over 40 who are on some form of medication and increasingly those under 40, who are constantly taking medication either over the counter or prescription. Just feel pity for them and wonder why they are so stupid as to go through such pain and agony, simply because they are addicted to chemically processed foods and refuse or to scared to change and take responsibility for their lives. Instead of putting it in the hands of the profit growth pharmaceutical industry, which really does nothing to improve health, just covers the symptoms for a short time and addicts you to their destructive products, whilst ruining your body.

I prefer to have a life free of pain, with a clear mind, eating real foods. Even though I may not live any longer than others, at least it will be fit and healthy, making it worthwhile and enjoyable until the last moment.

NP,
Good to hear that, at your age you're still 'fit as a Mallee bull'.
By the tone of your post, I gather you would not use this Vegan Beef (style) Stock.
I just find the whole concept of such a product insane! What Product Manager/Industrial Chemist would come up with the idea??
"I know! Let's make a beef flavoured stock for the vegan market, who shun all animal products..."

BTW, congratulations on knowing the correct spelling and usage of 'wracked'... ;) We are few, and growing fewer.

NP, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease 5 years ago after my weight dropping to 48kgs, I always ate a balanced diet, very little processed food, I have known that I have been lactose intolerant for about 35yrs, have had pernicious anemia for the same time, been on medication for an underactive thyroid for about 15 yrs., I have always been fit played sport & now play lawn bowls, I don't believe my health problems have anything to do with my diet or lifestyle, I have never smoked & like you drink very occasionally so think you are very lucky to have great health & no problems. I now eat an absolute diet of fresh vegetables, fruit, fish & minimal amounts of meat that I prepare, my specialist told me to purchase my own toaster because even a crumb containing gluten is damaging to your system.
According to what I have been told by many food companies to be able to label a product as gluten free in Australia, is costly & there are many hoops to jump thru, having said that one can't trust imported products labelled gluten free.
Shirley & Bruce.
