Saw a lot of those little cuties squashed on the roads, was it Benny Hill that was always going on about the hedgehog on the road??

Dot, It is an Echidna, not a hedgehog. I hope that there were not too many squashed.

Can they generate a stink if you try to move them off the road to a safer spot, even worse than the long neck tortoise and they can take your breath away
Stumpy tailed blue tongues like my mate "G'day" that takes his winter retreat in the workshop office put up quite a performance when you try to move them on so they don't get run over, they make the All Black Haka tongue thing look like a half hearted effort, they really get the blue tongue out and the mouth wide open

Terry a few little bits of tomato or strawberry and you'll have a mate for life! They make good pets. Just don't make any quick moves or they arc up a bit!
