Considering that there are car enthusiasts still using cars from the 1940s & 1950s as their daily drive, it’s going to be a while before fossil fuels can be phased out... If ever. 😳

Eighty year old cars still in use... hmmm. 2035 plus 80......
Hello 2115!!

Although, they will be rolling museum pieces.
A bit like us spotting a steam-driven car tootling down the freeway at an astounding 25 mph! 😀

Shades of the old British comedy film ‘Genivieve’!

You are showing your age George  The VL Commodore and Ford XF Falcon were the first models to come out with only a 7 yrs parts availability guarantee. That was the end of the era where cars remained on the road for 30 yrs and anything 30yrs old or became a collectors dream that they would pay big $$ for and rarely drive.
Servicing costs is the next issue, bugger all for an electric vehicle, they need tyres and windscreen wiper blades. the battery lasts for 7 yrs or more and the manufacturer actually warranties them for that long
The cost of fuel and the issue of finding it will be the big thing that gets cars off the road. Remember how many service stations there were when petrol was cheap and cars drank it like it was ... I was going to say water, but that isn't even cheap these days. As the cars started to use less fuel, the service stations started to disappear, that trend will continue as petrol and diesel sales reduce. LNG, maybe LPG but I doubt it and fast charging stations with a restaurant etc will replace the servo of old. Fuel tankers will become fewer and fewer and require specialised drivers who demand big $$ for carting dangerous goods. The reduced volume of fuel sales will end the discounting wars and push up prices. The govt will want more fuel excise tax because they are reliant on that income to pay their pensions and super etc.
So, hard to find parts that are very expensive, high servicing costs because the 7 yrs free servicing has finished, fuel hard to find and very expensive, compared to virtually no parts problem, no servicing costs, free fuel or very low cost, no problem finding a recharge and you can do it at home when travelling local, free from your roof top solar.

ICE (internal combustion engine) powered cars will become collectors items and only seen on club runs and shows because the average person can't afford them.

The article I read didn't say anything about not making fuel just no new cars will be allowed in or into England that use fossil fuels .

The other thing to consider is the market size for cars in general. Australia doesn't make cars anymore, so the rest of the world will dictate what car manufacturers build, and you can bet they won't even consider what some Australian car enthusiast's want, we will learn to live with what we get. We will first off get hybrid vehicles, then all electric vehicles. Just because Britain has said in 15 yrs time there will be no new cars sold that aren't electric, doesn't mean the car manufacturers will continue making petrol and diesel powered cars for 15 yrs. The number of diesel powered cars is already reducing because of the emissions scandals and the emission requirements continue to get harder to meet. Easier to just go electric than waste money trying to make engines that will meet the emissions standards for 10 yrs in the future when there will be zero sales for them in 15 yrs time.
Time to face reality, the ICE powered vehicle will become a show vehicle, no longer main stream ..... who would have ever thought a HQ Holden would be considered a show car? They are already.
