Re: Caravan weights and safety - do you know all about yours?

We have had very few caravan accidents reported by the media, and most of those have been very lightweight european vans blown off the road in strong winds. We do have a blanket 90Kph maximum towing speed in NZ so I think that must assist in keeping the accident rate down.

Unfortunately, with our van, there is little that we could easily carry in the Jeep. Our van weighed 2888kg dry when it arrived from Melbourne and with the battery upgrade, and 90kg (1200w) solar on the roof, third water tank and the 250lt grey tank (always empty when travelling) the numbers soon add up. We have now towed this van over 20,000km over all sorts of roads and weather conditions and it has always behaved perfectly - It does not have a rear mounted spare wheel or any storage boxes on the rear.

Cheers
Chris
