I wasn't game to mention it George!
SA has the highest electricity prices in the world I heard the other day.
It has the most uranium.
It has almost the biggest underpopulated area in Australia.
It has a lot of that area in close proximity to the ocean. (for water cooling)
A train line could cheaply be built between Olympic Dam (& other uranium sources) and Nundroo or Nularbor Station area that does NOT run through any towns or populated areas.
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=Null ... ines+in+SA
SA could power Australia & rip some of our money back that we paid for power over several years or extortion.
Best be done by STATE and not Fed Gov............... or we still get shafted!
WA does iron ore by state, not FEDs?

Makes more sense than exporting it to India?

Busman wrote: Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:12 am Unfortunately batteries are never going to be the be all and end all for those industries that consume lots of power, like aluminium smelters for instance, which would be one of the essential items in electric cars because of it's lightness.
Small scale local grids would simply not cater for these sort of demands.
A more realistic approach would meld some local generated stuff backed up by a bit of coal, don't you think ?
Of course batteries will never handle big industry, unless they come up with some unbelievable storage system, but wind, solar furnaces and black salt storage will do it easily. Aluminium may find itself useless as things like graphene, carbon fibres, pump hydro, wave, tide generation and other non metal technologies take over. If we put big industry by the sea in area's with big tidal shifts, we could solve a lot future problems and save billions yearly, as well as life on the planet.

Nuclear, has a few unsurmountable problems, waste management and disposal, site pollution and of course the elephant in the room, meltdown. For things like medicine, ships and submarines, nuclear is great and Aus should have nuclear subs for our defence. The reality is, it will take a number of different technologies to overcome the coal addiction and we will all be better off when we get rid of coal and fossil oil for fuel.

England, France, Germany & a lot of others have "surmounted" the problems and most of them are in populated areas.
It's really a no-brainer as far as I can see.
OK a few Grey-Nomads might have to detour around them if they are built at Nullarbor or the likes.
No problems? We like detours don't we?

A nuclear reactor was built just south of Sydney in the late 50s or early 60s. It was surrounded by an extremely large area of bush and a jet engine test site until people decided that it was a nice area to live and now it is surrounded by thousands of houses.

Do you mean Illawong Bernie? The bridge is at Alfords point. The reactor is at Lucas heights.

Huh, you are saying there is no tech to do this, but within a couple of words, say there is.

Sorry I find your comments have no basis of fact, again and again, more of green wish list, no basis in reality
