We stopped pulling into weigh stations too in our Coaster after constantly being waved on.

The reason you are waved on is that your vehicle has been weighed as you enter and is legal

In all the years of driving the Oka we've never been into a weigh station even though in our area mainly along the coast there are quite a few that are for over 4.5t GVM as they have never been open and we only travel in daylight.
One of the other Oka owners uses his bus for tours and I flew to Darwin a few years back to drive it back to the NSW mid north coast and had to get and fill out a logbook for the trip.
Another thing to remember if you need at least an LR to drive your vehicle is that BAC is zero and those hills that require trucks and buses to use low gear to descend applies as well to anything over 4.5t GVM. Which also means that you aren't supposed to use your main brakes at all which is interesting if you don't have an exhaust brake.
You are also limited to 100kph as are normal vehicles if the combined weight is greater than 4.5t. Many caravanners are not aware of tha last bit, I've just done a quick trip up to Mullimbimby and back from the Hunter area in the ute and gave up counting the vehicles towing caravans that were over 100kph.
