Overheard in a van park yesterday... Sunday.
1st couple: "Just arrived talking to their new neighbour. "Just arrived from Geraldton where we had intended to do some grocery shopping but found all the shops shut".
Neighbour: "Well, it is WA after all".
1st couple: "What does that mean?"
Neighbour: "Look at it this way... WA is still 2 hours behind the eastern states. They haven't been able to catch up yet... so until they manage that issue then they have no chance of getting the state out of the 60's era of closing the shops at midday on Saturday!!"
Kinda says it all.....
WA shops closed on w/e's.

when I moved to gatton in 2005 I went to the supermarket on sunday to get some cold meat for lunch. everything shut lol except crazy clarks and the bakery.
move forward to 2010 and they finally decided it might be a good idea to open on sunday lol
all other businesses still close at lunch time on Saturday.

In 1998 we visited Kalbarri on a Sunday.
The whole town was closed! Not even fish & chips available...
Stayed overnight to see the parrot-breeding centre.
Guess what? It was closed on Mondays!

Complain all you like about WA closing on Sundays. In general I have had no problems. NT, QLD and NSW country areas have the same Issue. Went through Mt Isa on a Sunday and the whole town was closed.
The reason shops dont open on a Sunday in most places is because of the extra cost of wages and people just dont shop on Sundays.
