Yes that's right. It is only for using when you click "view unread messages" on the home page & then decide to mark all of them as read.
For instance if there's 4 posts in Jokes & you decide you don't wish to read them but do wish them to NOT be marked as unread next time you visit the forum.
There are already similar links on topics & forums.

Now, could you add the same to the BOTTOM of each page so's we don't have to scroll all the way to the top to turn the page?
