Meteorite??
Whilst out gold detecting yesterday I had a great signal that turned up this rock. I believe it is a meteor but have to do further testing. It was down about 2 feet, it is highly magnetic and weighs 2 kg.
I just hope it is worth something

Gee Greg, are sure it's not kryptonite? Keep an eye out for masked, caped avengers...just in case.

Re: Meteorite??
It has a Fusion Crust all the way round it and also has Flow Lines on one side. You can see these in the last pic. The red/brown you can see in the pic is dirt that is stuck in the blackened crust.

Saw a TV show not long ago about a couple of blokes who travelled around the US states getting permission from farmers to search for rocks. Walked around with a magnet on a [edit: stick] and the suckers jumped up off the ground and stuck.
They were getting big bucks for golf ball sized lumps.
dawg (who has a heap of rock for sale - anybody? )

Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.

Re: Meteorite??
Craig are you on the prospectors forum?
www.prospectingaustralia.com.au
There are quite a few stories about "hot magnetic rocks".
Seems they are pretty common.
I have a friend goes over to WA every year and he reckons he covers all his costs while away.

Re: Meteorite??
Thanks Bruce,
I am on other gold/prospecting forums but not that one.
I have found thousands of hot rocks whilst out detecting but this one is not like any of those. There are four main indicators that it is a meteor, they are:- Fusion crust, weight, the Flow Lines and finally filing/grinding a flat or window on the rock to show what is inside. The first three would suggest it is a meteor, the window test I am reluctant to do until I speak to a professional. I would hate to devalue it if it is a meteor.
Dot, of course you can .
