Talk to the mate from Sapphire, he is keen on having us at his pace if Bedford Weir isn't a goer, he has 1 acre but surrounded by common land so no real dramas there, town water and he thinks there is a dump point close by... but that would need to be checked out. Clubs and stuff in the area, not too far from Emerald which is a fairly major town, lot of stuff to check out in the area and possibly even a mine tour and raw gem stone recognition thing for those interested, even a dam but the water level depends on seasonal rain.

So if Bedford Weir doesn't pan out, this could be a fall back option.

Sapphire has a dump point & water by meter ( pay for) at the free small camp in the town.

It was on another forum y'day re the C.P. Owner in Sapphire being against free camp but aren't they all?

WooHoo... just found what I didn't know I was looking for.

Well, sorta...that is, I was looking in the CAW7 book for some gratis rest areas along the way towards Charters Towers &... Voila!! There it was... Macrossan Park, #271 in the book.
It's on the Burdekin River & near a railway bridge.

Will check it out in about a weeks time - or there abouts - & update info then.

hooroo...

The first weekend in August is the gemfestival at Anake, which is a sneeze away from Sapphire. So you could include that in your itineraries as a great place to visit................... there will be a wonderful dragon lady flogging dichroic glass jewellery there!

Scratch Marossan Park.

No bloody good although there were quite a few vans & MH's there. Area is covered in dry dead looking grass with tracks all over the place & uneven ground... would be difficult to get a group together in the one area.

Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.
