Cape Tribulation & Cooktown.
Well, we've been here in the Tablelands of FNQ for about 10 months & before we leave & start a slow meander southwards we intend heading a little further north to check out the 2 places in the heading.
Initially thought of leaving the van here at the Millaa Millaa Tourist Park, just throw some clothes & stuff in the Cruiser & head off for a few days or so, staying in either motels or van park cabins. But, ya can betcha lefty that we'd forget something. So...
Have decided to take the van, that way accommodation will be cheaper - yeah but getting there will be more expensive - & we'll have our own food & won't forget a bloody thing.
Now then... haven't been north of Cairns previously so looking for info on good van parks, camping areas & road conditions.
Any suggestions ?

Wow, so many things to see north of Cairns, if you drive the coastal road it is very scenic, Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, Wonga Beach, Daintree, guess you would go to Cooktown one way & come back the other.
The Atherton Tablelands has so many places to stay & see, one of my favourite areas.

Thanks Shirley.
We were at Ravenshoe for just on 6 months for a house sit that didn't really eventuate - turned into a house share, not our cuppa!
We then moved to Millaa Millaa Tourist Park initially for a week or so but it's such a nice quiet, small park with new owners about 8 months ago who have done wonders bringing it up to scratch that we have stayed. Older facilities but kept clean & tidy, pool, & lots of open grassy areas for un-powered or shady areas if that's a preference.
I think if anyone wanted to stay for a while Rob & Sandy would offer a down graded rate.

Re: Cape Tribulation & Cooktown.
We stayed in the CP at Millaa Millaa in August 2012 was owned by a hairdresser, she had a salon set up near the office, the gardens were nice think it was for sale when we stayed.
We lived in Cairns '69-'71, our eldest son was born in the Cairns Base Hospital, couldn't believe how it has changed.
Ellis Beach CP is a lovely spot but not cheap, there use to be a motel on the mountain but it was blown away in one of the cyclones & never rebuilt, fond memories we stayed there in 1966 while on our honeymoon, spent a night there in 2012 walked along the beach, so romantic

Chuck,
Go to Cairns on the inland road and come back the same way, the Track is 4x4 only.

Chuck I think BernieQ did something similar to what you are intending to do.
He might chime in but I know he left his MH somewhere & did the top end by tour.
I'm presuming the wet is slowing down a bit now? Wouldn't be much fun sitting for ages waiting for floodways to drop.
A lot of baked beans & tinned fruit might be the go!!!
