No haven't been at bowls just busy & kept forgetting, have a problem with facial skin cancers at the moment should of worn a hat when I was younger, wear one now but a little late damage already done, good that kids have to wear hats at school these days.

OK folks,
Here's a good Aussie question:
A (now deceased) former Liberal then Independent Federal politician (served: 1949-1977) had a direct connection with the Blue Mountains, although they are not in his electorate.
What is the connection?

Bonus point if you can connect him with a well-known Australian poem.

(NOT the one which starts: "The boy stood on the burning deck..."!)

William Charles Wentworth, known as Bill Wentworth his great g'father led the expedition which found the route across the Blue Mountains in 1813.

You have the easy part correct, and no-one has connected him with a poem, so I’ll give it to you.
The poem is “My Country” by Dorothea Mackellar. Bill represented the electorate of Mackellar , named after her father.
