John 'Black' Caesars is correct Ray, he was a West Indian Negro, white Australia sentiment was in evidence, for, on account of his colour, none of the fellow convicts were willing to "hut" with him when they were placed on Garden Island to grow vegetables.

David it was an interesting read re William Buckley, he spent 30 years living with the Aborigines before being pardoned & moving to Tasmania.

Your turn Ray post a question.

In the summer of 1788/89, the fledgling colony of New South Wales almost disappeared, as the prisoners and their guards faced starvation due to ignorance of the seasonal reversal from those of the Northern Hemisphere.
The Sirius was sent to Cape Town to buy more supplies, and another supply ship was dispatched from London.
Unfortunately, Sirius was wrecked off Norfolk Island, and the other ship foundered when it struck ice on 24 December 1789, and had to be abandoned at Cape Town. (Fortunately, the voyage of the Supply in April 1790 was more successful, obtaining food and medicines from Batavia [now Jakarta].)
What was the name of the second ship, which struck the ice?
