Thirsty Work...
Maggie dropped by for a drink from the dogs' bucket yesterday.
She's tall enough to stand on the paving and drink (the bucket is permanently full to overflowing... I park it under a dripping tap, don't need to top it up manually. :D :D )

Then Junior (baby from 18 months ago) joined her, but sat on the rim... he's a little shorter than mum.

New Arrivals:
We have some new arrivals...
A pair of Pee Wees (Magpie Larks)
Pee Wee.jpeg
(They were widely separated on the grass. Could only get one in frame when he walked under the carport.)
... and a family of Blue Wrens. Or should I say, a male and his harem of four ladies.
They flit about so much it's hard to catch them in frame, and they're so tiny the females almost blend into the grass.

We also have an occasional visit from a lone bird, which we think is a Blue-Faced Honeyeater, but as he doesn't have the blue patches, we suspect he's a juvenile... probably fell (or was tossed) out of the nest. :( He only visits the birdbath for a quick splash and a drink. Hard to catch with our camera on hand.

Our new humpy in the foot hills of Adelaide has an abundance of birds compared to the big smoke I was in...
So I thought I would put in a bird bath for the Maggies

Thought a couple of weeks and they might use it... pigs arse, couple a days ... :D :)

"tanks" here---Vik,
I have 3 bird baths at the Bunker.
I have 2 of them in the back yard, and 1 in the front yard.
(At $39.00 each for the Terracotta ones at Bunnings I could afford to have several of them)
I notice that different size birds use the back yard baths.
The smaller birds use the one under the mango tree, and the larger birds use the one out in the open.
Keith.

I would, but there's a limit of 250MB on file size... maybe if I use a lower resolution?
Useter be that clicking on them enlarged the pics. Dunno what happened to that. Other posts have enlarged using cropped phone pix.
Tried blowing them up to 180KB, but they pixellated so badly I couldn't identify the Maggie... and I knew what I was looking at!
I guess that's the price I pay for using my phone, then cropping out 85% of the pic...
Sorry George.
I'll try leaving my proper camera handy...

The decoy works!

Found the corrugated iron magpie in our travels (he's on the right ;) )...
This morning Junior decided to pay him a visit...
Maybe he wanted to tell the new arrival to bugger off??

(At least THIS one enlarges when you click on it! :P )

yea tanks, did the same, one in the back yard as well mainly cos the joint had one at the open inspection ant the owners took it at the sale... :o

So I replaced it with a fancier one also from Bunningtons cos I figured the burds around here would miss it ... :?

And bugger me if the same Maggies didnt end up usin that one as well :D

The doves sneak in when they can ... :|
