New Solar PVs

As a result of the Vic Govt adding a further subsidy to the Federal one, installing solar PV panels finally makes financial sense for us.
Payback will now occur within our expected lifetimes.
Yesterday the installers came (at 0700hrs  ) and put them up.
They were finished by 1500hrs, and the electrical inspector came this morning at 0730 to give them the Big Tick.
We await our next electricity bill with great interest...

Ray what is the pay rate now in Victoria?
Are they 250w or 300w?
Worst thing I see with them is that if the power goes off, so do you. Pity it doesn't still feed your house?

Waiting for feed-in details from power company.
Don’t know individual panel details, but whole system is 6.5kVA.
Solar company says we should save up to 50% on monthly bills. I’d be happy if we save 30%.
I’ll have to check with Solar company to find out what happens in a blackout.
SiL has Solar with battery storage. Blackouts don’t affect her.

My old joint in Adelaide had 4 KW and no battery, so blackout = go into motorhome...

When we had that 24 hour blackout, the Espie (#1) came in very handy...

Without a battery and roof solar ya join the rest of em in the dark...

You would think there would be a system where ,if YOU turned off your main switch to the grid wou could keep on using your solar during the day,bad luck at night though...???

Vik...

Phoned the solar company.
They informed me that, despite the Solar input, in a power cut, we’re in the dark with everyone else.
I’m with you, Vik. You’d think it logical that when the mains supply falls over, the solars should kick in with replacement power. After all, they would still be pumping it out... so where does that energy go? Up Santa’s chimney? 😳

Nup!
To the right of the little gable in pic 2 there’s an equal area available on the house part of the roof. (All facing directly north.)
If we wanted to (and could afford it) we could add another 22 panels for a total 13kVA!
Add in some monster batteries and I reckon we could go completely off-grid! 😁
And if we REALLY got serious, or crazy, just out of the pics to the left is a 15m long steel shed (my ‘playpen’) running nearly East-West, where we could add ANOTHER 20-odd panels on the North-facing roof! 😳
