Ray, I often think that the collective of spelling mistake makers' do it on purpose, just to pee of old sub-editors.
BTW, I think it is working as intended.
You probably don't watch Sunrise on 7 most mornings, or you would be noting mistakes every day.
I don't think all that many of us on these pages passed a tertiary English subject, but we do OK. As opposed to the bunnies on our national networks that should know better.

One of my regular posters on www.nzmotorhome.co.nz is a school teacher and would be near the bottom of the barrel with regard to spelling and grammar

Yes I could imagine listening to the pretty clitterati for a whole hour would be enough to turn the average brain to mush.

I have enough of a problem not responding to the "sheeple" on TV at the best of the time.
