How much room you got under the axle Bernie?
What is stopping the axle being jacked up now the spring has gone?

Will it come off? Or can you let the air out?
That rattle gun is 9in high without socket.

Air is out Bob,at the moment I have one foot of clearance
And I'm starting to strip the threads on the ubolt.grr
I can't even turn the bolts all I can do is pull them down.
I'm going to try one of the others to see if I can atleast get one out...I filled the hole I now have on top of the bolt I have been working on with penatreen, about inch and a bit... but none soaked thru that was from yesterday.

Well done Bernie.
With Bob's idea of digging a hole.
If you dig a hole for the drill, is it possible to run a small drill up the bolt?
I'm just thinking that a small hole up the guts will allow it to compress a little as it's pulled out.

Re: Bernie's u-bolt saga.
You would have to drill from the top, as it's drawn down to the bottom....no room for a drill from the top.
I think it requires more swear words .
The first one is still there only about 1/2 inch but I have no thread left. I will eventually try the stilsons on it...or weld a nut to it and go from there.

I know that. However, a small (long) drill will allow it to crush a little as it's pulled though. I'd still drill from the bottom. You would have to drill from the top, as it's drawn down to the bottom....no room for a drill from the top.
what do you mean? The first one is still there only about 1/2 inch but I have no thread left

Re: Bernie's u-bolt saga.
ahh, bugga.
Grease the threads, and plates for the next one.
Sounds like you'll be drilling it out. Get a bit of round. Bore it out to slip over the bolt, leaving a saddle. Bore the saddle with the pilot drill. It will centre the pilot hole in the bolt.
