I had to have one done a few years ago, front tooth fell out (it had been root canal treated a long time ago) - I looked like Pirate Pete with the missing front tooth and was concerned it might impact any possible modelling jobs
The dollar options for me was either get an implant or have a bridge type thingo (they grind down teeth on either side of missing tooth and make up a plate with a three false teeth and glue it all back in - the dental specialist wasn't a believer in this method, why alter two good teeth)
I was fortunate with the time taken to do (extract what was left of tooth, insert the cement block, allow healing time of gums etc etc) I was able to work health cover dental claim over two year period (the cost of one of the items wiped out my allowance for one year)
I was advised not to go biting into things like apples (I guess doing that puts a fair strain on the front teeth), I was given the tooth moulds back so in theory if something does happen they can make up a new tooth undo the screw and insert new one.
After first visit I was given an itemised account of what it was going to cost so you can check with health insurer what you will get back, this visit also determines if your gums/jaw are suitable for an implant
Good luck
