I was similarly confused when I moved from NSW to Adelaide to work in my youth. Asked for a pint & was served a middy.
‘Portergaff’ also confused me. From memory (unreliable at best) I think that was champagne and lemonade?
Rather than blaming your memory it wasn't the stout & lemonade mixtures you were drinking was it ?
When we visited Canada and asked for a Shandy received ginger beer & beer, their Blanche is lemonade & beer

Well, not yet anyway, but it might be only weeks away before that's the reality of it. I've cleaned my glasses so many times now I'm worried I'll wear through the lenses.
Best we don't harm any more TV's Dottie, even if my eye sight improves I might fake it and try for the braille identification method
