You weren't expecting anything that happens in the USA to follow a logical pattern do you  Then you also have to question anything that comes out on a news feed these days ...
With so many vehicle manufacturers in the process of ending fossil fuel powered vehicle manufacture because they couldn't meet the pollution requirements 5 yrs ago so they know they can't meet the requirements that come in in 2030 while burning anything but hydrogen, they have abandoned development of fossil fuel engines and vehicle design to accommodate the fossil fuelled engines. The focus of development now is in the direction of two motor or all wheel motor drives and the battery pack being part of the construction of the vehicle rather than a bolt on part. If the life cycle of the battery pack continues to increase at the present rate, the consideration of having to drop out the battery at some stage in the vehicles life cycle will give way to making the battery pack the major structural section and everything bolting onto that.
Th old VW Beetle idea of a chassis pan that the gearbox and engine bolted to at one end and the front suspension at the other end and a body bolted around the edges.

Only Tesla marketeers can flog a car with a surf board thingy in a forest and in front of a river.

Not even sure just what it is that's loaded on the roof rack. It looks too long to be a standard type surf board, so that would make it a Malibu long board .... but in some sort of padded bag maybe?

It's a SUP. Stand up paddle board. All the hipsters up here have them. Seems to be the latest craze/ fad.

Ahhh.... so you could conceivably find a deep enough part of a river that you could use it ..... Maybe not as silly as the boss after all ;)
