Our ph is a Next G Telstra. Chuck has one the same and he had to also take the back off his to find the plug in point for the aerial, he might be able to explain better than me

Re: To fit external aerial for ph ??
Hello Dot, I added an external antenna to our MH for our trip to Tassie as we wanted phone coverage and internet where ever we were and I was given excellent advice from Laurie on the other forum. In short the best solution is a broomstick type antenna of at least 6dB gain. The one I fitted is this one -- http://www.wirelessworld.com.au/antenna ... band-7-5db As I fitted my antenna to the MH roof (to give it good height) I also fitted an adjustable knuckle so I could lower the antenna when not in use. Check out -- http://www.wirelessworld.com.au/antenna ... ng-bracket
The antenna comes in black or white so I used a white one to match the MH. The antenna comes with 5 metres of cable so the only other thing you need is the correct patch cable for your mobile phone. We use Iphones so our antenna is hooked up to a phone cradle which also charges the phone as well. When using the external antenna we increased our phone coverage by at least 40 %. Also remember the higher you get the antenna the better, mounting it off the bummer bar the MH will block the signal if the tower is behind you.
I hope this helps.
Glenn

Carcomm make cradles to suit most smart phones that do not have an aerial jack. The cradle allows you to connect an external aerial. There are other companies that make these cradles so do a google search. Expect to pay around $180 for the cradle and aerial.

Thanks Glenn & Craig, very helpful info. I have now passed that onto HWINO (He Who Is Never Obeyed)

Actually it's Catriana's... but they are Telstra T3-Easytouch Discovery 3 & that back of the phone does need to accessed - where the simcard is located. It would 'appear' that back needs to remain off whilst any antenna is connected... which I find rather strange.Dot wrote:Our ph is a Next G Telstra. Still checking...

Dot,
We have Next-G Telstra Mobile Broadband, which came with a Sierra Wireless dongle (in 2009).
The dongle has two little covers over sockets on the top, one of which is for an external aerial. Didn't ask what the other one is for.
The latest 4G dongle is a different shape, but if that's what you have, take a careful inspect and if you have any little covers (about the size of two match-heads) use a sharp knife point (a veggie knife is good) to prise the cover out & see what's underneath. If it looks like a headphone-type socket, go back to Telstra & ask if they have an external aerial which will plug in HERE.
Best I can suggest until we upgrade to 4G...

I thought that stood for "Him, the WINO"...

The feminine version of that doesn't bear thinking about...
