Aussie Football (AFL)

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Don't the Swans have some sort of breathing difficulties, don't they choke when they are out in front?

Awwww, how unkind.... I would rather them chase than be in front any day. when they lead they stuff up and fall asleep. When they are under the pump they play well.

Didn't I hear the lith battery alarm go off......Lol.

Well we won, but started to go back toward the end. Can't see us going much further this year unfortunately.

Couldn't escape the foopball reports on the TV News this week past.
Saw lots of men diving for a line and slamming a ball down.
Why do they still have goalposts (and without the Victorian 'consolation prize' posts, too!) :?:

The goal posts are for the conversion kick (and a field goal explained later), the ball over the centre bar and between the posts from the spot across the ground the ball was first placed over the try line. They can come as far back up the field as the 25mtr line (think that's right) but it must be the same distance from the side line as where the try was scored. The conversion is worth 2 points.
A kick in the run of play without the ball touching the ground and going over the centre bar and between the posts is a field goal and worth 1 point, often used to win a tied game or break the spirit of the other team as the requirement becomes a try, a sucessful conversion plus 2 points to win the game, hard work in the closing mins.

Never see the goal kicked after the try... well, on the Telly, anyway.
So why show anything if they don't show the scoring goals?

The try is a team effort, worth 3 points and in the end it is one man against the whole opposition defence, the conversion depends on one player who is in the tream because of his special ability to get the ball high enough and long enough and to travel in a curved arch so it can travel from the ground to between the goal posts that often appear to be side by side with no gap from the angle the ball is kicked. The centre of the field is the most defended, that would be an easy spot to kick a conversion goal from, so the breaks in the defencive pack are usually at the very corner of the try line and side line, you can't touch the corner post before the ball touches the ground or it is considered you were going out of play so no try is awarded. Even if you get across the line with the ball you must force it to the ground, not just touch it when it's there, the other team only needs to touch it when the ball is free in your goal to stop a try being awarded. If they can get a body part under the ball to stop the attacking team forcing the ball to the ground that also stops a try being awarded. Even if they have got all of those parts right, any breech of the rules in the play before the try being made stops the try from being aearded. In NRL, go over the sideline and you are out of play, unlike that other strange game, if you have the ball in your hands you are the enemy to the other team, they don't stand back and give you space just because you caught it on the full.
To score a try in first grade NRL is quite hard, that is why it is high lighted on the replays.

Hey Terry your talking about that other strange game not our Aussie game LOL.
I recon Rugby it is a game where they try and get rid of the ball by throwing it away so they don't get hurt.
The Aussie game is a skilful game where you have to be able to mark , kick and handball and also be able to run long distances quickly if you want to score. The other two games came from overseas because some of the immigrants cant learn the rules of a new game  I could never work out what game was being played and how they could work out what was going on and I could not be bothered working it out either  :D .
Ducking for cover now.

I thought he was talking about some sort of space/rocket launch......

Now the Bloods have lost I am switching my loyalties to the Hawks..... Reckon its going to be a close game but reckon the Hawks have the upper edge, but only just.

I know the game you are talking about Brian, it's Irish football without the difficult goal scoring part and a different ball isn't it? Doesn't sound like it's particulary Aust origin, just Irish football made easy, all the hard bits taken out, an extra set of posts so you get a point for being close and everyone stands back and lets you take a kick if you catch the ball on the full.
