You could "A" frame a little front wheel drive auto if you put it in neutral and left the eng idling while towing. it might use a bit of fuel, but fuel isn't that expensive compared to vehicle costs.

Bruce,
We did over 55,000km in the Jimny during our 3yr Big Lap.
Much of it was 4WD-ing in national parks. The rest was shopping-cart duty.
I don't think a $600 heap would have survived.
Horses for courses...
