A good starting point for tyre pressures can be calculated from the info given on the tyres and the vehicle weights, front and back. do you have those weight,Dot?

While we are on tyres---
I have purchased a set of tyre pressure monitors to fit onto the Iveco when I get it back from the engine rebuild.
One of the settings is for temperature of the tyres, which gives a warning if there is an increase in the tyre temp.
The question is; what temp do I set the monitor at ?.
Keith.
Keith, The best way to work out what temp you need to set the monitor at is to check all your tyres are at the correct pressure for your vehicle and note what the temperature of each tyre is. Then go for a drive and see how hot they get. You are looking to see a change in temperature that is unusual for your vehicle. The temp will depend on a few different things. Every vehicle will have a different tyre temp depending on tyre size and the weight it is carrying.
Put 'tyre temperature' into the search box. up in the RH Top corner. It will show that there have been a few threads on that subject.

Hi Dot,

I've got 85-90 in the empty Bedford. 4500 kgs.

When I got the tyes, they were at 100 and were too hard.

To low and they run hot, feel wallow-eee, and can burst due to the heat. (The heat is caused by the flexing in the sides as they flatten out when they turn.)

To high and they feel hard and bouncy,

Just right feels just right.

80 might be just on the bottom/low side of the just right.

(Mind you, there are proper charts for tyres and weights.)

16pr is good. 16 ply.

An "old" method was to pump to the max recommendation of the car maker (or max of the tyre maker less 10%) & go for a drive (used to be @ 10 miles but 15km will do).
The tyre pressure should be @ 2-4psi higher than the start pressure, if more than that; then the pressure needs to be increased (yep pump up higher when cold) but would usually be less.
else
Let a bit out of the tyre & leave overnight, repeat drive & measure pressure rise again.
No problem with doing more than the 10 miles but worthwhile checking at that time in case of catastrophic error in pressure.
