I agree that mostly they are very good.

One exception was some goose I came across at Jericho Qld. There was a couple of dozen Motorhome and caravans there and I was showing a new friend my diesel heater installation which is right next to my 3kva Honda inverter generator. While we were talking a big flash caravan and even flasher 200 series manoeuvred in behind us. Anyway old mate must have thought we were talking gen sets and ambled over and said he had been kicked out of his previous camp site for running his generator, a 3kva Honda inverter like mine.

Kicked out: shocked, stunned, amazed. Where had he been ‘kicked’ out from? and he pointed up the track and said “just up the end here”. “What at this camp site?”

Yes – apparently, fellow caravaners up the end had had enough of him complaining about camp fire smoke and running his generator and politely asked him to POQ, which he did, to a nice spot just behind us and about 20m from our camp fire (which is another story). Anyway knowing how quiet a 3kva Honda Inverter generator is I assured him that he could run his generator with no complaints from me.

My bad. I should have assured him that running his generator on ‘eco’ mode would have no complaints from me. Mr Goose started up the gen set at 5pm and ran it till about 9pm every evening flat out, I must admit the noise was constant and it certainly didn’t surge! I am only thankful that it was cool to cold weather and he didn’t run it all night to power his aircon, but then again if it had been hot I probably would have had mine on. No I wouldn’t, I would have been at home :)
