Ray, we have replaced the battery on our approx 5 year old. Dyson Stick Vacuum.

We replaced with a knock off battery which did not last. Bit the bullet and bought the genuine replacement for about $85 I think.

I didn't realize the screw in the handle was for the battery, and I completely missed the one hiding under the cannister.
I shall investigate further...

UPDATE:
I have just purchased a replacement battery for the old V6 Dyson... and upgraded from 2100mAh to 4500mAh in the process.
Shoulda asked on this forum before rushing to Dyson for help.
Well, we will now have
two Dysons: a V7 for home and a V6 for Girt!
And I guess when we're not travelling we can
both attack the vacuuming, starting at both ends of the house & meeting in the middle at the kitchen, just right for a quick brew when we've finished!
