If only...

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

T1,
IF we could cross the SA border, could you help us?
Our 4YO Dyson vacuum cleaner is powered by a 26v lithium battery.
This week, it has decided to go on strike. Up until then we could do the whole house on one charge, with power to spare. It now runs for 5 minutes, then requires an hour or two on the charger before giving us another 5 minutes.

Dyson said the charge to fix it would start at $80, depending on where the problem lies. Alternatively, we were offered a $100 discount on an updated similar vac of slightly better specifications which would carry a 2yr warranty.
We have accepted the update offer, but were wondering if the old one is fixable to carry in Girt.
Once the travel restrictions are lifted, would it be worth the trip to SA for you to have a go at it? Or should we just consign it to the recycle bin? (A pity, given what they cost.)
I really can't see the problem, Ray. For me, the vacuuming is done in 5 minutes. Bron, on the other hand, takes much longer and it would be a problem for her.

This You Tube video shows how to remove the battery.

We replaced with a knock off battery which did not last. Bit the bullet and bought the genuine replacement for about $85 I think.
Shirley,
Thanks for that link.
I didn't realize the screw in the handle was for the battery, and I completely missed the one hiding under the cannister.
I shall investigate further...

UPDATE:
I have just purchased a replacement battery for the old V6 Dyson... and upgraded from 2100mAh to 4500mAh in the process.
Shoulda asked on this forum before rushing to Dyson for help.
Well, we will now have two Dysons: a V7 for home and a V6 for Girt! :D
And I guess when we're not travelling we can both attack the vacuuming, starting at both ends of the house & meeting in the middle at the kitchen, just right for a quick brew when we've finished! :P :P :P
Regards & God bless,
Ray
