Members supplied their email addresses to the CMCA forum and most were shown for all to see. I gleaned quite a few addresses of members I wished to contact, what was wrong with that? If people were concerned for their privacy why did they choose to have their address available?

As I am no longer a member of the CMCA and the forum is no longer open for a member or ex member to remove their email address the CMCA is responsible for the safe keeping of this information as I see it. the fact hat a private group were able to simply harvest that information for their own gain is a matter of concern, don't you think? Who else could have harvested that information? Someone who could on sell the information to a scam mailing interest for profit or reward perhaps? Is there a potential profit or reward to be gained by the present private consortium that accessed this information and have used it to generate a mailing list?

From memory I think members were required to check a box if they wished to have their email address displayed.

I think we can let this speculation go on all day and still never know exactly which forum it (the info in question) came from even if (apparently) it was admitted it did come from the original forum. That was said probably just to juice up the argument a bit.
Regardless of whence it came I don't think it was a good idea to do the mail out. Seems some of those receiving them thought the same as me?

If people are concerned about their privacy they may be better to stay away from the internet.

There has been quite a discussion over there - yes, I am a member at the moment - with quite a few extremely upset that this system was used.

I do recall some time ago - perhaps it was just prior to the loss of the CMCA forum - that it was revealed that the CMCA membership (I think) could be purchased for around $300. The info is a little vague but I'm sure of the amount mentioned but exactly what that got you is questionable.

A few ex CMCA members who were not aware of the AMH forum & received the email were very pleased to be called in from the cold.

Not sure how I would have felt if it had been me.

I got one. I just think it was rude. They, whoever they might be, should have respected the privacy of former members of whatever forum it came from. Notwithstanding, my email is hardly a secret so I see no reason to be precious about it. As I said, just plain rude.

I thought that it was not the intention here to advertise other forums?
