Ray as you know I know nothing about Mac's so I'm not sure if this will help.
On Windows computers there is a "data save" setting that was introduced to help those connected thru data limited plans not exceed their allotted amount.
It is called "metered connection" that you turn on or off.
Maybe there is a similar one on a Mac?
PS. it seems you're not receiving Private Messages? Did you get Margaret's email?
