The little 3208 was a good small engine, went well with a tubo gave them 250 hp.
What I didn't like about the 871 was not being able to take the left hand off the gear stick. :D :D

Some of those back roads used to cop a hiding!
Poor chap at Moorlands corner could never understand why his telephone wires kept 'falling down' almost every night!

I always thought they were designed for landing barges in the war! Explained to me originally that longevity wasn't planned, only lightweight and power.
Interesting read, thanks!!

Not many 2 Strokes left in boats, I have a part time gig driving a 200 Ton boat lifter and most of the new boats that I put into the water have MTU power plants. The old fellows say that 30-40 years ago they were maybe 80-90 percent of the fleet

I had the 671 in my trawler back in the 60/70's.

Was trawling from Brunswick Heads in the late 60's all the boats were around 40' and ALL had cummins motors. Then a guy built a 50 footer and put an 8V71 in it, if he was working the same area as the rest he left half an hour later and got there half an hour earlier !
Made the rest of them sit up and take notice. Of course all the boats started getting bigger after that and pulling twin gear.
Had a german guy working on the farm for a bit, he had built his own and fitted a V10 Merc from a truck, but got religion after a flare took off his kids face, be came a jehovahs after that too much guilt.

Check this pile of scrap metal out!
http://s1048.photobucket.com/user/bruce ... ort=3&o=13
Poor cray fisherman installed it in his boat after taking out an 892TTa.
Lasted half a season and they wanted almost new price to fix it.
Consumer affairs intervened......... full refund & back to the DD.
Iveco didn't want it back so Lee pulled it to bits & sold it to Sim's Scrap metal bit by bit.
See why I don't like Iveco? International? Fiat? Grrr!
Scott's Tspt had a fleet of them in their trucks ....... not any more!!

Bruce,
How much did Lee make selling the scrapheap?

Watched a TV prog last night on the mega-trucks used in a Nevada open-cut goldmine.
Didn't mention manufacturer's name, but they use a 20-cyl turbo-diesel to run a 3-gigawatt generator for the electrics driving each wheel.
It consumes 46 GALLONS of diesel per hour! Fuel tank holds 3,500 gallons! 76 hours' running.

Ray it wasn't much!
He found out by experience that if you pulled engines & other mechanical things to bits & seperate out the aluminium from the copper from the cast iron & wash the old oil off of parts, it'll bring much more return. Same as electrical wires......... take off the outer plastic and sell the bare copper for maximum $$$$
I love him living across the road from me in Kingston as I can get rid of a lot of scrap without paying dump fees.
Dot also loves him for the fresh garfish he delivered after a night out dabbing.
