Hi. Nothing to do with Alice Springs but both Daisy Bates and Breaker spent some time in the Riverland. There is a spot on the river near Loxton called "Daisy Bates Landing" and the Renmark Pub has the "Breakers Bar "where the story goes he road his horse up the steps and into the bar for a drink.

Daisy Bates was " white queen of the never never " Grand Dame of the Desert, did it have anything to do with Dame Nellie Melba?

Olive Muriel Pink was mentored by, & a friend of Daisy Bates, who in turn was married to Breaker Morant.

Olive Pink followed Daisy Bates example re aboriginal anthropology & advocacy. She lived in Alice Springs & was well known for the botanical garden she built & lived in, & which is now named after her.

Looks like Cuppa has better research skills than the rest of us.
Cuppa are you getting any of this cyclone rain up the Cape, or is it just going to the sth east corner?
By the time the news gets to where we are in Vic, it isn't very specific. We just get the sensationalized version.

ONYA CUPPA!!!
Got the whole story!

The difficulty in tracing this story is that The Breaker (real name: Harry Morant) & Daisy were only married for 3 weeks. He was only 19, which at the time meant he couldn’t legally marry. She threw him out when he failed to pay for the wedding.
Whether they bothered to go through a formal annulment is not recorded, so her two subsequent marriages were probably bigamous.
Her third definitely was, as she ‘forgot’ to divorce Mr Bates, even though she had a son with him.

Your turn, Cuppa...

Dave, we are getting very little. In the past week we had one heavy shower which lasted about 20 minutes. Bom radar shows lots of red & yellow rain around us quite often, & we see the lightning & hear the thunder, but I feat the Cuppa wet season invisible umbrella jinx is at work again.

Not sure I'll be much cop at this quizmaster thing ...... but here goes.

During the Vietnam war the Americans & Aussies, Poms & Canadians simulated a nuclear explosion on Australian soil to determine what the impact of dropping a nuclear bomb in Vietnamese jungle would be. When, where, name of the operation & how did they simulate a nuclear explosion without using a nuclear bomb?

Clue: this occurred very close to my current location.
