Dot, your Kiwi tree looks like a stunner as well. Must be something about bright red flowers that appeals to us all. Good to see the misting fans are working. Too hot for us to be working tho! xxxx
Terry, the Firewheel is evergreen member of the proteaceae group of trees. They are related to grevillea, banksia and protea and I don't see any of the old Illawarra flames in the list. That's a plus, anyway. It's good for a street tree because it's growth habit is straight up, so no branches hanging out over the street. Allegedly only goes to 7 metres, but I think this plant didn't get that message. It will have a haircut once finished flowering. Maybe even just a top lopping will do the job.
I wasn't here last night because my computer man had the machine overnight. It's had a couple of incidents of turning black screen or mouse freezing, so I knew that it was time for a cleaning out. It should have that happen in September, but we were a bit busy and forgot. He brought it back this morning and stayed for quite a while while he updated windows. This time last year, he told me that he was happy with win7 and didn't see a need to change. What changed his tune? HIs win 7 become infected through the windows things and caused him all sorts of problems. He has windows 11 on all his computers now and thinks we are safer to keep the updates on security patches happening. Even the computer nerds can't make up their minds!
It was hot here today, so again an inside day with the aircon, but as much of the day seemed to be with the computer man, it was just another overheated stay indoors with the air con day. The only bonus is that the sun was making our power, so the aircon was free.

Dot if you can just hold your mouse over the bit that tells you who the message is from, you will see a line with a load of garbage. That tells you the email is genuinely trash. There is probably nothing wrong with your computer. I get those messages daily and it doesn't change when you get a new computer. My computer guy insists on Eset smart security. He probably gets a good kick back from the company. Talk to the people who you take your machine to and get their opinions. They know your machine and how you use it. Stay cool mate xxxx
Great to see you back with us Keith. xxx
Today was another stinker. Over 40 according to the tv. I didn't open the door to find out. I could see the shimmer of heat haze over much of the area. I forced myself to stay indoors and get the tax statement organised. PITA. The job has been done and on Monday, I will have to make an appointment to see our accountant. The list of things that must be done is getting a lot more manageable.
So far, I have found that doing the tax with windows 11 was not so much more different than windows 10. The pictures in the photos, are not so easy to see, so I will have to be patient and work out how to make each tiny picture readable. Nothing that will cause me to spit the dummy just yet. I am hoping that this means that all the original horrors with the 11 version have already been ironed out. For quite a long time I heard people complaining bitterly about it, so that's why I didn't rush to change. I heed the advice from those who know better. Thanks Jon.
Tomorrow is predicted to be another stinker, until a cooling Southerly blows in. Then I will go outside. Hoping for the Southerly earlier than the weatherman says.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
You are not going to believe this but I saw the sun rise this morning so pretty soon after that In my Pj's and dressing gown I was in the garden putting out the spent sweet peas ,moved some pots around, did all the bird baths and fed them, Fed the 1 maggie with Brian's left overs, then decided to mow the grass with the mulch er so that would spread the seeds, then believe it or not I cooked a chicken roast for the disabled one. My M8 in NZ is in a bad way, her other doberman bitch is not very happy, she is mourning her sister of 15 years that Sue had to put her to sleep 4 weeks ago, since then she has not been eating much and wants to stay on her bed all the time, rang Ross (the vet) and he also agreed on her missing her sister so Sue and vet have agreed to see how the next week goes then they decide. She still has her old Dobe of 8yrs and the newest girl of 1 yr she doesn't need more stress but she will be ok. Wish that rain that has been promised for Victoria would get there and the Qld /NSW rain would stop, too tragic for words, all those houses and poor animals just gone
Hope everyone and families around Aust are away from the danger. Off for a nice warm shower then to bed so Goodnight everyone x
Goodnight Shirley x

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
That was a very long day Dot. Hope you don't feel the aches tomorrow. xxxx
Shirley was right about today being even hotter that yesterday. It was just horrible and we forced ourselves to stay indoors with the air con on cool from 10AM. His nibs put it on while I was showering. Turns out that he has been feeling the heat this year too. Usually he is still in his long sleeves all summer, but he found an actual Tshirt for today...very rare.
We both did very little as there was just no energy to be found. I sat for many hours deleting the extra photos from my phone. Seems like whenever I take photos off the phone to the computer, they double up and similar happens with the computer. One machine at a time here. I have stripped out three years worth of second photos, so hoping to have it a bit quicker when I need to get photos to print through the computer.
The cool change didn't happen until way after 10PM so it has been a long hot day. Hoping for some pleasant weather tomorrow. 23 is such a nicer number than 41 and we may be able to muster up some energy.

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Deborah,
Just be careful with that. Sometimes apps try and sync up.
If you delete the original, the secondary one which your keeping, gets automatically deleted.
Best to keep a backup on a portable storage disk too.
I lost all my email history about 3 years ago. I cleared to files off the server thinking they were safe on the pc.... only to watch them be deleted like falling dominoes. Grr. I'm still missing important messages.

Dot, sleeping soundly I hope xxxx
Jon, thanks for the good advice and no doubt I will have chopped out some of the originals, but only off the phone. There may be as many as 5 copies still on the computer and I had already decided that the computer has so much built in storage that I will not need to delete photos from it. I also have a portable hard drive that I back up the computer to once every few months, so Photos will not disappear into the ether any time soon.
We have finally had a rainy day, so nice and so cool. His nibs even had to find his jacket!
I have been trying to get accurate measurements of a pantry cupboard in the van, so I enlisted an assistant and we managed to get much more accurate numbers than I could manage. We need some drawers that will tidy up all the bottles etc. So, off to temu we went. I had put several bathroom shelves into the cart for the day when I could do a proper check on the measurements. None of them would do the job, so more research was needed. It took a fair while, but I think these baskets will do the job and it's on order now. His nibs has been researching shirt sales at temu on his ipad, so I let him join the shopping "frenzy". I personally cannot tolerate polyester clothing but he loves it. He chose a few shirts and now he will be waiting for the temu parcel to land on our doorstep.
Once that job was completed, I went on to do the annual Christmas letters. I run out of time in December, so our friends know they will get a response eventually to their notes. Today was that day. I am happy with all three different letters and have left them for his lordship to address them and post them. I think he got the easy part of that deal. We do have other friends who we talk on the phone to, but these are those really close friends from a long time ago who only need an annual chat.
Sweet dreams and stay safe wherever you are xxx

Re: Nightly Goodnight Everyone
Deborah I had another long sleep today (high noon) My feet were rather painful during the night which kept disturbing me. Had a friend ring up from Adelaide and said she was coming for a cuppa that was at 1pm and she left with some lemons and zucchinis at 5pm
Brian and I were in the bus for a couple of hrs this evening and the dust is terrible so we started wiping the ceiling and walls in the bedroom and cleaning out the air con and their filters, one lot need replacing
1 maggie came for a tit bit today Oh Deborah Xmas cards still I thought you were getting this years ready
Speaking of warm clothing George is still wearing his tracky dacks and flannelette shirts and jumper but not on the 40 odd deg days Bloody cancer again, I gave a friend an email (from Mannum) No, not you know who, haven't spoke to him for a while and he told me his wife has had 2 breast cancers and undergoing her radiation and he has prostate cancer no symptoms once again. OK off to bed now so Goodnight everyone x
and Goodnight Kelvin 12 x
