Good morning daily

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

When I brought the bus up the drive and crawled under to check it out there was a heap of oil hanging off the diff, luckily I had a drip tray handy. I wiped all the oil away and then drove the bus back and forth, 5 metres, a number of times and fresh oil appeared. I will be calling on the mechanic and asking that they come to my premises to check it out.

First thing I'd check, is the oil leaking at the seal or the gasket pack behind the flange the seal mounts into, that gasket pack was available from Adrian Dawes a while back, so hopefully he still supplies these sort of bits.
If it is the seal leaking, double check the pre-load on the pinion bearings, if that is insufficient the pinion will move in a near orbital motion and the seal will not be able to compensate. the next is the level of wear on the pinion flange where the seal runs.

If it's actually leaking around the nut that holds the driveshaft flange onto the pinion, the splines are so badly worn the nut will not stay tight and there is no way to stop the oil leak without replacing at least the flange, just hope the pinion isn't worn in the splines as well .... then it's a full rebuild, new crown wheel and pinion stuff and that's when you find the planetary gears have chewed away the casing and ....

Good afternoon 13c, bleak & raining, not so good here either, on leaving for bowls a few light spots of rain, arriving at the car park it was moderately heavy, so that was the end of us playing bowls, we all had morning tea & a chat, at least I won a prize in the raffle. :D

Terry, the Origin started out like a gladiator clash, that's not football, it did settle down but I don't think it was a good game, Congratulations to Queensland, footy isn't as good since they brought betting into the game IMO.

Shirley, are none of your rinks undercover? There are a few up here with full cover and a special carpet surface, not real grass.
You are right about the footy. All codes have suffered IMHO since the big corporates got involved. The win at all costs mentality has even filtered down to the grassroots junior levels now.
George, that isn't good. Did they manage to fix all the other things the bus went back to them for?
Cheers

George.

The bottom bolts of the flange are under the oil line. They must be sealed will flange sealant.

The oil seal runs on the uni/flange shaft. You could fit a speedi sleeve. However, as Terry has said, once you remove it, the rice paper gaskets make the critical distance to set the backlash. It has to be exactly the same prior to removal.

The flange nut is tightened to 245? ft lbs or something. This sets the bearing preload and stops the oil running up the pinion spline. (as also said by Terry and outlined in the document I sent previously.)

Adrian has crown wheel and pinions for about $900. And rice paper gaskets too.

My pinion.... don't be fooled, it's about 16 inches long.

David, Belmont bowling club sold their real estate on top of the hill overlooking Lake Macquarie about 2 years ago, they have moved to Belmont Golf Club, their capital was used to build 2 indoor greens with all the bells & whistles, I haven't played there yet but believe it is excellent, synthetic greens.
Our greens are both grass & outdoor, all our local clubs are outdoor, some have one of each grass & synthetic, a couple only have synthetic, we play Terrigal in the pennants & I think one of their greens is undercover now.
