Well I suppose there is nothing like built in obsolescence. It shows how ridiculous our Rego rules are, that a Turbo six producing twice the HP is cheaper to rego than a basic eight.

I might be wrong (often am!), but SA did away with the cylinder charge years ago.

A Holden motor  Wash you mouth out with Solvol Anne Marie  In all seriousness, as good as the old 186 was, it's now very old, very old design (late '50's -early '60's out of Canada) and the blocks are at the end of their service life.
The Ford 4.1ltr cross flow, besides the weakness in the front right corner, were a very strong block, we produced 700BHP both on the Dyno and Morosso horsepower on the drag strip out of a 4.1 block, so they can stand the test of time and strength. With the Alloy tappet cover polished they do present quite a show piece as well. The AIT intake manifold polished running both fuel injection and LPG, economy, style and a trustworthy power plant. A C4 transmission behind it, or the 4 sp transmission from an EB into a cut down 9" running 3.55 ratio if you want to run it on the strip or 2.89 ratio for road economy, or something in between, a strong combination.

know of a chap with a full race 302. Will lift your face off on full howl. I will stick with a good old 289, good for the sound, a lot of grunt and in a small english sports car will pull 60MPH in first, then hold on.

Had a sunbird with a 186, yellow terra head and lumpy cam etc, was good for 150 mph, and the 5 speed box would spin the wheels in gravel at 70. Managed to rip seal up once.....
was a lot of fun. 3 weeks after I sold it it blew up.... :)

Ford 6 cross flow with Injection, economical and as Terry says looks good looker polished up a bit. Had the injected cross flow in an F100 and it was one of the most economical engines I have ever driven in one of those old girls. Power was reasonable coupled up to a v8, C4 and a 9incher. Not an earth shatter-er but a good driver. Saw the blue F100 in the photos you posted sitting beside the Morry. Bought back a heap of memories.

Of course a good 351 in the old Pommy bread van would be interesting.....
