Think Peter should think about making room inside the fiver for a new bike worth that amount of money probably lucky that it hadn't been taken before or at least make sure he insures the replacement.

Shirley,
I was going to suggest that, but thought I'd waffled on long enough...
Good idea. Maybe there's an underfloor/under-bed area available for internal storage?
Otherwise Peter could have a welded mesh cage built to sling under the 5er like the truckies do with their spare tyres??
A decent bolt & lock combo would discourage all but the most desperate, and if it's under the rig, it's not so visible in the first place.
Worth a thought, Peter?
Regards & God bless,
Ray

No room inside for it, that's why I put a rack on the back. Looks like bigger cable and chain next time.
But police said the thieves carry battery driven grinders now.

Wonder if those battery driven grinders have silencers on them?

Ah :!:

Maybe a roof-rack, Peter, like you see on BMWs & the like... with the bike standing up, minus the front wheel.
That would put your bridge clearance at, what, 6.5m? :P

Still think the under-floor cage is worth further thought. Out of sight...

Movement sensor camera on the rear looking over the bike and rear of the vehicle. You may not be able to stop them stealing the bike, but a movie of them doing it will get the Police swinging into action, so will a name and shame video posted on Faceless Book along with fair warning that the serial number is now in the hands of the Police and anyone found with you bike will face the likelihood of receiving stolen property, this would make it very difficult to sell. A GPS tracker in the seat pole would allow you to track the bike down as well.

A GPS tracker up thy clacker is a good idea for lots of other reasons as well.
