I was also wondering how your engine was going Jon.
Back to the job in hand...
A picture of the kitchen as is cept for the cupboards removed... the first two cupboards on the right are to be removed and nothing going in their place... affectively making the kitchen smaller... but the dining area larger..
The benches right and left are to be shortened, but the part with the sink remains the same.
BUT... all the benches are to be removed so they can be sanded down and redone... sanding is my job..the finishing is for Carol...
The new stove will be either the same height as the bench or slightly higher...we will know more about that further down the line Dave... thanks Shirley.

We have one bench out...and bonus...no biscuit joints, it must have been in the old motorhome that I used the biscuit thingys 😁. IT did have three of those tightening bolts thingys, they just needed to be undone.. plus all the other screws holding it together.
You can see in the bottom photo where the bench will end when the first cupboard is removed...the backing is just up so we could put the lounge room back to some sort of normality... Carol is removing the coating at the joint, using a box cutter..

That cupboard on the right in the bottom picture is now removed...I done a test sanding on the bench that's been removed... looks like I need 80 grit to sand it down to bare wood... not today but soon I will have to remove the bench with the sink in it...I have bench off cuts in the shed so I can still have a usable sink... but that will wait till we have all needed to complete the job... probably next Thursday... maybe...

But what if you come up with two different lines after the second measurement? Do you cut between the lines to average out the error? If you measure it the third time, you will always be in doubt as to whether any of the three measurements were correct.

Always best to measure the size required and measure the piece to be cut, using the same tape measure ...... been caught with that more than once ......

If my second measurement differs from the first I do a third — always with the same tape measure📝 — and if they are still not in agreement I check the place it’s to fit into again.
Sometimes I just cut 2~3mm outside the largest measurement, test-fit and mark the actual size.
😊

Good one Bernie. I hope the rest of this project goes well for you and Carol. :D don't go using them other tape measures if you aren't real good with metric. Measure twice, cut once.
I've just been thinking about the number of times I wished I had taken my own advice.  Only been 100mm out a gazillion times.
Cheers
