Bernie, you can buy fluxed MIG wire from ebay very cheap, I get 5kg x 8mm rolls which seems to be the best as 9mm wire tends to stick for some reason and 8mm flows and fills very well, it also layers better than the 9mm.

Been using it for almost 2 decades and get good results, just takes a bit of practise and experimentation for each job. Before I weld with flux wire, always do some experiments on metal the same as what I'm going to weld. The side car I'm working on had a head light in the nose of it which I've removed and welded a piece of metal over the hole which had to be bent to maker a cone to suit the hole and that took some experimentation as the metals were different thicknesses and makeup. Going to put a LED array on the front of the sidecar, just have to find one to suit the chair.

The side car looks nothing like what arrived here, every time I think I've got it right, decide to make another alteration and now seriously thinking of cutting a door into it and making up a light metal canopy for winter and to keep the sun of the dogs when travelling. But first going have to get it together for the summer and make the canopy over summer, it will swing up to get into the chair and lock down. Which will require the seat to be altered so the passenger (or dogs) will be semi prone in it, but that won't happen until the chair is ready for use as I'm getting very itchy to ride again.

Speaking of dogs, buried my mate Dax yesterday, his last week was very traumatic and nothing I did helped, except the CBD which is simply amazing, he just kept getting worse even though force fed him. So took him to the vet and they did blood tests and x-rays finding nothing, until they tried to put a tube down into his stomach whilst under anaesthetic and it wouldn't go so they gave him morphine anti nausea rugs which just made him sick and didn't help his pain at all, but the CBD did.

Turns out he had a collapsed oesophagus where it enters his stomach and it would cost another 4-6 grand to check it out and another 3-5grand to operate with no guarantee of success. He's old for a kelpie and probably wouldn't survive the operation, so we went to the beach he loved and he sat there for over and hour just looking round, then wanted to go home.

Took him back to the vet early yesterday and they put him to sleep in the car, which he loved being in and with me by his side holding his head. Took him home and buried him along side 2 of my other dogs, so now have 5 dogs buried at home and a very distressed and sad Bindi. She's been lying in the same position they used to lay together on the veranda since he was buried and only moves when I come out, now have to find her a mate to help her with her grief and fill the hole in both our lives.

Had many many dogs in my life, but it never seems to get any easier when they go, especially when the circumstance are so traumatic and painful. I stayed up all night with him Wednesday as he was very distressed and only relieved when I was with him and without the CBD, think would've shot him, but it reduced his pain and he laid there with his head on my lap until we headed to the vet. He knew what they were doing and relaxed and licked my hand as they administered the drug, but it took a few minutes for his brain to accept death and even though his heart had stopped, he still kept trying to take a breath which amazed the vet, then it was over. But life goes on and the next one will arrive soon and Bindi will have the choice whether he's suitable to join her on the journey. Tomorrow we will head to the surf beach, go to a local market there and then head to her favourite beach for a long run, which will help us both.

Bernie,

when swapping from solid to flux welding wire, you need to change the cable polarities so the gun is connected to negative.
It should be noted in the manual.

Polarity: Change the polarity to DC Electrode Negative (DCEN) for flux core. Your machine was likely set to DC Electrode Positive (DCEP) for gas-shielded MIG.
