Maybe the reason you lost the wheels. It pays to have shocks on trailers.

George

Have sorted some Land cruiser rims with re engineered offset.

Planning some new 14 ply tyres and now to consider adding some aftermarket shockies.

Can anyone suggest or have any experience with retro fitting shockies to a 4.5 tonne rate tandem axle trailer.

Cheers

Not retro fitting as ours is independent air, but between the time I looked and ordered, probably 6 months, Vehicle Components had gone from 1 shockie on each unit to 2

Have a chat to a suspension place.

Generally, the shockers need to have the travel reach not to bottom or top out. The action doesn't need to carry any weight as the springs do it.

In terms of mounting, plates bolted to the axle with a stud and a hanger from the chassis. Just use shockers with 2 eyes

Eye is the ring shape at the end of the shock where the rubber goes with the mounting bolt through it

Good reason to have tyre dogs as you would have got a warning when the first one left you so you would have stopped and checked.
Was the nuts not done up or done up too tight.
Have lost two wheels on trailers one where the expert did the nuts up with a rattle gun and the studs sheared off and the other was a blow out and i did not feel it and it chucked the tyre sand wore the wheel down to the point it had attacked the brake drum. Both cases were expensive so now tyre dogs on all wheels and as soon as there is a pressure drop or a wheel decides it wants to go its own way I get a warning. Takes a while to settle when I leave the trailer behind as it finds it before I leave but when it gets out of range the alarms start beeping.
