Re: Avida stuff
Vik, We have been using an induction cooktop in our house for over 20 years now ( a Taiwanese "Cookpower") and It's still working fine. As long as a fridge magnet will stick to your pots and pans they are OK. While the flash copper-bottom stuff had to go, we have been able to keep using our old cast iron frypans etc. The early s/s induction cookware was an eye-watering price but I think they may be a bit more reasonable now. Just take a small magnet with you to instantly check the suitability of things in op-shops if you don't want to buy new.

Re: Avida stuff
I believe there is a heating plate you can drop into any saucepan that makes it induction compatible. I haven't actually bought one to try it out so only going on hear-say, anyone had hands on experience with these things?

Re: Avida stuff
Vik,
As far as I know, all our new pots are either mild steel or stainless. Both types work on our induction cooktop.
I tried our cast iron griddle (from m/h gear)on it recently. Worked a treat. Unfortunately, I ratcheted up the power a bit too far, and it has left a shadow on the shiny glass surface. Gradually disappearing, but worth taking note: if you use cast iron, cook slowly... they hold a lot of heat!
And don't use abrasives to clean them. Dish detergent and a cloth/paper towel is plenty good enough. Wipe dry with a soft cloth, and they look brand-new for ages. Ours is now 3yo, and (
apart from my cast iron misadventure) still looks as-new.
