Thankyou all for your support. Enjoyed the freedom the Li batteries gave us on the trip over to SA including the 5 bar oil filled room heater and induction stove. After failed attempt at making toast on the induction cooker using a cast iron fry pan we bought a pop up toaster, some things just need the right equipment and toast appears to be one of them. Margaret reports that the stove top percolator coffee pot is much faster on the induction cook top than on the gas and the vegies cook much faster, so the cook top was a winner. The coffee pod machine works fine on the inverter but we forgot the milk frother.... milk in the saucepan on the induction cook top required close attention, 2 boil overs and burnt milk in the saucepan to date and no one seems to sell the proper equipment around here so we might have to buy one on line.
so come on, who else has lithium batteries? Tell us some of your on road successes that the Li change over has allowed that you couldn't do before with the older battery technology

G'day all,

I posted the message a few sentences below on the Lithium forum on 24/7/2015.

Might be of interest to anyone wondering just what you can do with these batteries.

We have had the batteries since Terry installed them in Nov 2013 & they haven't missed a beat. We are heavy power users and give the batteries a caning.

We are also able to, and regularly do, operate (individually of course) the Air Command Ibis air con, microwave & electric hot water service.

Regards,

Ian

Posting of 24/7/2014 follows

Morning tea at Wombat. Outside temp 10deg. Wife crook with heavy cold and reluctant to leave warm car to go into c'van. Diesel heater still not working (booked in for repair in Melbourne 12/8)

Remembered electric blow heater. Turned inverter on and plugged in heater and set on 2000w. Toasty warm in c'van within 4 mins.

Prior to turning heater on, Junsi showed 13.3v & inverter showed 13.3v.

Drawing 200amps and voltage at Junsi shows 12.7, voltage at inverter shows as 11.9v.

After heater turned off, both bounced back to 13.2v.

Lunch at Bungendore, temp down to 8.5deg and repeated above but decided on cup a soup as well as sandwich. Turned heater back to 1000w setting and boiled 1000w kettle.

Again drawing 200amps and 2000w projecta inverter did not miss a beat and, after kettle & heater operation, cabling from battery only slightly warmer than before turning inverter on.

At end of lunch, battery capacity had dropped from 97% to 86%. This equates to 44 amps as system is 400 ah

When arriving home at Narooma, battery back to 99%, thanks to dc/dc charger. No solar assistance as rained nearly all day and I don't have any direct alternator charging in my system as 200 series alternator is to "finicky".

Love these batteries and eternally grateful to Terry for his installation.

Regards,

Ian

regularly run heater, induction top and air con as well as microwave off batteries. 2200w electric jug instrad of gas to boil kettle.
toaster gets flogging, 800w coles job. electric blankets etc. hair dryers and straighteners get used regulalrly as well as electric boost on hot water. I do limit draw to about 2500w for saftey.
We have acted as power station for friends as well.

The biggest secret or mystery about LiFe batteries is learning to overcoming the unknown! That's where Terry has come in. Its all fairly simple and straight forward, with a few Terry-only bits, to install and run these batteries now that I have done it twice! All the necessary information is out there, and if you apply a Terry filter to it all, it makes sense. If you don't apply the Terry filter you could easily waste a lot of time and money.
For example, Redarc have announced that their Manager30 will from October include a "Lithium Profile" (The Wanderer, Sept 2015 p95). For ONLY $1,990 you too could have one. BUT it will NOT monitor individual cells - you are expected to have a battery with built-in BMS. What a lot of expensive rubbish! All set up with advice (but apparently no practical experience) from one of our well-known RV solar experts.
Very troubling!

I haven't had much success with Aldi electrical equipment, with the exception of the little TV. Most of their other stuff is great though, especially the Workforce brand hand tools, some of which I use every day.
